Having directed an Oscar nominated film in the form of Good Night, and Good Luck, not to mentioning nabbing another Academy award for his performance in last year's ultra serious Syriana, Clooney has proved he is one of Tinseltown's major players.

However, like Cary Grant - the actor he is most often compared to - Clooney is just as adept at doing comedy. Now he can bring his comedic skills to the fore once again as he has finally been given the green light for his long-planned comedy Leatherheads.

Originally the film was going to be directed by Clooney's producing partner Steven Soderbergh. Later on Swingers star Jon Favreau also wrote a draft script, due to be directed by Jonathan Mostow.

Leatherheads currently has no confirmed start date but Renée Zellweger is currently in talks to join the cast and Clooney himself will set to work on it after finishing Ocean's 13.
